Career Round Enables Eaton to Tie for 3rd in Hartford Hawks Invitational

BLOOMFIELD, Conn. – Bentley University junior Nelson Eaton (Groton, Vt./St. Johnsbury Acad.) had his best round as a collegian, a two-under 70, to finish in a tie for third place in the Hartford Hawks Invitational at the Tumble Brook Golf Course Tuesday.

Eaton used three birdies, an eagle and a dozen pars over the tournament's final 18 holes to establish new collegiate career bests for both 18 and 36 holes. With his 74-70-144, he finished five strokes back of tournament champion Jake Mrva of Fordham, who posted a 66-73-139. Austin Gambel of Hartford followed in second with a 70-73-143.

As a team, Bentley was third among five teams with a two-day 297-295-592. Hartford took team honors with a 291-289-580 and Fordham (292-294-586) was the runner-up.

Sophomore Zach Stewart (Pembroke, Mass./Duxbury HS) tied for ninth with a 75-74-149 and senior Timothy Picard (Dracut, Mass./Lowell Catholic HS) tied for 14th with a 76-75-151.

Rounding out the Bentley lineup were seniors Aidan Stuart (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) and Jake Napoli (Plantsville, Conn./Southington HS). They also tied for 14th in the 31-player field. Stuart had a second-round 76 and Napoli followed his opening round 73 with a 78.

Bentley's next action will be the Granite State Opener Sept. 18-19 in Concord, N.H.
