Led by Picard, Bentley Places 6th in FPU Fall Invitational

TOWNSEND, Mass. – With junior Timothy Picard (Dracut/Lowell Catholic HS) shooting a collegiate-best one-over-par 71, the Bentley University golf team finished sixth in the Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational, which concluded Monday at the Northern Spy Golf Club.

The Falcons, with a team score of 299-291-590, trailed host Franklin Pierce (298-289-577), Assumption (294-286-580), day one leader Southern New Hampshire (286-295-581), Le Moyne (299-285-584) and Post University (299-288-587) in the standings. A total of 16 teams participated in the tournament.

Picard finished with a 74-71-145, good for 13th place in a field of 84 golfers. His second day score included birdies on the fourth, eighth and 12th holes. His 25 pars in the tournament was tied for the third most.

A stroke back of Picard, in a tied for 14th, was senior Jared Walter (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS). His second-round 72 gave him a 36-hole score of 146.

Sophomore Evan Desjardins (Salem, N.H./Salem HS) was a -2 on the tournament's eight par three holes and finished in a tied for 23rd with a 74-75-149. Sophomore Nelson Eaton (Groton, Vt./St. Johnsbury Acad.) rounded out the top 25 with a 77-73-150. He had an eagle on the 471-yard par-five fifth hole Monday.

Alejandro Gomez (Dominican) was the medalist after posting a 67-69-136, two strokes better than Michael Sosik (Franklin Pierce).

Bentley's next action is the Southern New Hampshire Penmen Invitational Sept. 26-27 at Beaver Meadow Golf Club in Concord, N.H.
