Walter Leads Bentley at West Liberty Invitational

WHEELING, W.V. – Junior Jared Walter (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) led the Bentley University golf team during the West Liberty Invitational with his 54-hole score of 217 a career collegiate best.

Walter finished 25th among a field of 78 after turning in a 76-68-73 on the par-71 Palmer Course at Oglebay, which concluded Tuesday. His final round 73 included two birdies, both on par-five holes, and four bogeys. During the tournament, he totaled eight birds.

Walter's performance helped Bentley, the seventh-ranked team in the NCAA Division II East Region, climb one position Tuesday and finish ninth of 12 overall with a score of 908 (304-300-304).

Bentley's number two finisher was senior co-captain Ryan Daly (Beverly, Mass./Beverly HS). Hr turned in a final round 76 to tie for 55th place with a 231. A stroke back, in a tie for 58th, were teammates Matt Mackin (Westwood, Mass./Westwood HS) and Kevin Lynch (Haddam, Conn./Xavier HS). Lynch finished with a 76, and Mackin shot an 83 after a 73-76-149 on Monday.

Medalist honors went to Oliver Mast of the University of Indianapolis. He finished at 15-under after shooting a blistering 66-69-63-198. Only four strokes back was Findlay's Tanner Grzegorczyk with a 67-68-67-202.

Indianapolis captured the team championship by 13 strokes after finishing with an 817, an amazing 13 under. Findlay (830) and West Liberty (852) completed the top three.

Bentley's next tournament is the NCAA East/Atlantic Regional Showcase Sunday and Monday at the Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor, N.Y.
