Walter Shoots Career-Best 68 to Lead Bentley During West Liberty Invitational

WHEELING, W.V. – Junior Jared Walter (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) turned in the best round of his collegiate career to lead the Bentley University golf team during the opening day of the West Liberty Invitational Monday at the Palmer Course at Oglebay.

Walter shot a three-under 68 during the second round and finished the day with a two-over 144, good for a tie for 21st place in a field of 78. He was six over after the first ten holes and four under during the final 26. Included were three birds in the first five holes of his second round.

Bentley's number two man was senior Matt Mackin (Westwood, Mass./Westwood HS). He turned in a 73-76-149 and is tied for 40th.

Rounding out the Falcons' top four were senior Ryan Daly (Beverly, Mass./Beverly HS) and junior Kevin Lynch (Haddam, Conn./Xavier HS). Daly shot a 77-78-155 and Lynch was a stroke back with consecutive 78's. During the second round, Daly eagled the par five, 500-yard second hole.

Bentley, ranked seventh in the NCAA Division II East Region, finished the day tenth among 12 teams with a score of 304-300-604.

Findlay University will begin Tuesday's final round with a two-stroke lead over the University of Indianapolis in a battle of top 40 teams. Findlay turned in a 545 and UIndy posted a 547.

Five players are tied for first place with a 135, including two players from Findlay and one from UIndy.
