No. 20 Bentley Looks to Extend Winning Streak Saturday at Home

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University men's basketball team will put its five-game winning streak and number 20 ranking in the latest NABC Division II coaches poll on the line Saturday when it takes on Adelphi University at home. For those who can't make it to the Dana Center, the 3:30 game will be available on NE10NOW.tv/bentleyfalcons.

Following its fourth wire-to-wire win of the season (73-67 at Pace Tuesday), Bentley is 7-1 overall and 3-1 Northeast-10. During the current streak, coach Jay Lawson's team has outscored its opponents 413-315, giving up an average of 63 point a game.

Adelphi will make the trip from Long Island with a 3-6 record, including losses in each of their five conference games. The Panthers have dropped three in a row, including 82-56 to Southern Connecticut Tuesday, and are winless in four road games.

Bentley, the reigning Northeast-10 and NCAA Division II East Region champion, ranks in the top ten nationally in numerous categories, including number one in free throw percentage (.847). The Falcons are also third in defensive rebounds, sixth in rebound margin, fewest fouls and three-point accuracy, seventh in assist-turnover ratio and nine in three-pointers made.

All five starters continue to average double-figures in the scoring column with junior guard Zach Laput (Beacon Falls, Conn./Notre Dame HS) eighth in Division II at 22.3. He's had at least 20 in seven of eight games and is shooting 59 percent overall, 47 percent from downtown and 86 percent at the line, with a conference-best 56 trips to the line.

Graduate transfer Matt Leritz (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University HS) is the only player in the Northeast-10 averaging a double-double, 14.8 points and 10 rebounds, and his three-point percentage (.611) is also a conference-high. Graduate guard Mason Webb (Oklahoma City, Okla./Bishop McGuinness HS) follows at 12.3 points a game and is tied for the Division II lead in free throw accuracy (1.000, 21-21).

Junior Aaron Latham (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) and grad student Brian Wright-Kinsey (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooks School) each have a team-best 28 assists with Latham scoring about 12 a game and Wright-Kinsey 11.

Adelphi's top offensive weapons are six-eight senior Aristotelis Sotiriou and graduate guard Ronnie Silva, who is on pace to eclipse the 2,000-mark later this season if he stays healthy. Sotiriou tops the team's scoring list at 14.9 and Silva follows at 14.8, down from his 20.4 last season.

Defense has been an issue for the Panthers, who are last in the NE10 in scoring defense (77.4) and opponents field goal percentage (.498). Offensively, they are sixth in scoring (72.9) and three-pointers made (9.0), and third in field goal percentage (.470).

Three of the last four games between the two programs have been decided by two or less, including last year's 75-74 Bentley loss at Adelphi. Two free throws with 1.3 seconds left were the difference in a game that included a Laput 20-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Next weekend, Bentley will be in action twice, a road game at Bridgeport Friday and a home contest against Jefferson University Sunday, Nov. 18.
