Bentley Looks to Bounce Back Tuesday at Southern New Hampshire

WALTHAM, Mass. – Before launching its home schedule over the weekend, the Bentley University men's basketball team will play at Southern New Hampshire University Tuesday night as it looks to bounce back from Saturday's loss at Saint Anselm College. Game time at Stan Spirou Fieldhouse is set for 7:30 pm and it will be streamed live at NE10NOW.tv.

Bentley, which was ranked 14th in Division II preseason, is 2-1 overall after the 78-73 loss in its Northeast-10 opener, a game that featured 13 lead changes.

Southern New Hampshire, which will be playing its home opener, is off a 3-1 start with three of the four one-possession games. Most recently, in its first NE10 game of the season, the Penmen held on for a 58-57 win at Southern Connecticut.

Bentley junior Zach Laput (Beacon Falls, Conn./Notre Dame HS) has been the conference's top scorer and rebounder through the first ten days of the season. He had 26 at Saint Anselm and is now averaging 24.7 points and 8.7 rebounds. His effective field goal percentage is an outstanding .781 after shooting .688 overall and 6 of 11 from deep.

The other four starters for coach Jay Lawson's team also own double figure scoring averages. Junior guard Aaron Latham (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS) has made 64 percent of his shots, including 10 of 19 from downtown, while scoring 16.7 points a game. Graduate forward Matt Leritz (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University HS) follows with averages of 15 points and six rebounds. Like Laput and Latham, his field goal percentage is over .600 to date.

Through three games, Bentley leads the NE10 in numerous offensive categories, including scoring (93.7), three-point accuracy (.515), three-pointers made (12.7), free throw percentage (.845) and rebound margin (+8.3).

While Bentley is at the top of numerous offensive statistical categories, Southern New Hampshire gives up only 66.8 points a game, second best in the conference. Over the last three games, their opponents have been limited to 61, 69 and 57 points.

Junior guard Matt Becht tops the scoring list with a 16.8 average, an improvement of nearly two a game over his mark last season in his first SNHU season. Noah Kamba, also a junior guard, follows at 11 a game despite shooting only .333 overall.

The third double-figure scorer for coach Jack Perri, a former Bentley player and assistant coach, is sophomore guard Ethan Okwuosa, at 10.3 a game.

Bentley defeated Southern New Hampshire three times last season, including 75-68 on the road, and now leads the all-time series, 31-27.

This weekend, Bentley will be at home twice with Dominican visiting the Dana Center Saturday at 3 pm and Post University following Sunday at 5 pm. Dominican is off to a 5-0 start and Post is 3-1 with the only loss being by a single point to Southern New Hampshire.
