McGuinness Named Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University sophomore Erin McGuinness (Rutland/Wachusett Reg. HS) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week following her outstanding performance last week.

McGuinness, while playing 91:37 in a 1-1 week, allowed only one goal and was credited with four saves. She limited Assumption to a single goal in a 1-0 overtime loss and played the first half of a 3-0 win at St. Thomas Aquinas. The victory was her first as a collegian.

After missing all of last season following a knee injury, McGuinness has been in five games this season. Her goals against average is 2.38 and she has a .719 save percentage. Over her last three appearances, she's allowed only one goal in 106:37.

Also recognized, with selection to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll, was senior captain Caroline Szakowski (Reeders, Pa./Pocono Mountain East HS). Szatkowski had both a goal and an assist in the first half of the win at St. Thomas Aquinas. Although she was scoreless in a 1-0 OT loss to Assumption, Szatkowski has a goal in three of the last five contests.

For the season, she has four goals and one assist for nine points.

Bentley, 5-5 overall and 3-2 NE10, will host Saint Anselm Wednesday and Adelphi University Saturday.
