SPARKILL, N.Y. – Senior Caroline Szatkowski (Reeders, Pa./Pocono Mountain East HS) had both a goal and an assist in the second quarter to propel Bentley University to a 3-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field.
After a scoreless opening period, sophomore Lida Coco (Litchfield, Conn./Canterbury School) found the back of the net three minutes into the second for her fifth of the season, tying her for the NE10 lead. The game-winner was her third.
Szatkowski, who was credited with the assist on Coco's goal, netted her fourth of the year less than two minutes later, making it a 2-0 game with 10:17 left until intermission.
Sophomore Meagan Hayes (Salem, N.H./Lawrence Academy) added an insurance goal for Bentley 3:31 into the third quarter. It was her first of the season and second career.
The shutout was shared by sophomore Erin McGuinness (Rutland, Mass./Wachusett Regional HS) and junior Mia Trottie (Cinnaminson, N.J./Bishop Eustace HS). McGuinness, who earned her first career win, made one save in the first half and Trottie had four in the second half.
While Bentley (5-5, 3-2 NE10) dominated the score, St. Thomas Aquinas (3-5, 1-2 NE10) had the statistical edge with an 11-5 advantage in shots and 7-3 in penalty corners.
Bentley will be back in action Wednesday night with a home game against Saint Anselm (7 pm).
