WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior Lida Coco (Litchfield, Conn./Canterbury School) and senior Caroline Szatkowski (Reeders, Pa./Pocono Mountain East HS) provided the scoring as the Bentley University field hockey team celebrated Senior Day with a 2-0 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Mercy College Saturday afternoon on the Bentley Field Hockey Field.
Bentley, which had a 16-4 shot advantage, evened its overall record at 3-3 with its second NE10 win in as many attempts. Mercy dropped to 1-1 overall and 0-1 conference.
It took only 34 seconds for Coco to give the Falcons the lead. On a breakaway, she fired it from about ten yards into the cage for her third of the season.
Bentley's second goal came with no time left on the third quarter clock. Off a penalty corner, senior Madison Halas (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate HS) drove the ball towards the goal and Szatkowski redirected it into the net for her second of the season and a 2-0 lead.
The shutout was the second in as many games this season for senior Madison Clark (Natick/Natick HS). She was credited with one save while her counterpart from Mercy, grad student Lauren Viscione (Phillipsburg, N.J.), made seven.
Bentley, 3-0 at home this season, will play at Southern New Hampshire Tuesday at 6 pm. A week ago, the Falcons edged the Penmen in Waltham, 2-1.
