Bevilacqua, Halas & Szatkowski Named Field Hockey Captains

WALTHAM, Mass. – Seniors Ava Bevilacqua (Dedham/Notre Dame Acad.), Madison Halas (Danbury, Conn./Immaculate HS) and Caroline Szatkowski (Reeders, Pa./Pocono Mountain East HS) have been named captains of the 2022 Bentley University field hockey team, head coach Jessica Spencer announced.

All three played significant roles last season while helping the Falcons to a 14-6 record, the program's best since 2009, and a berth in the NCAA Division II championships.

Bevilacqua, a second-team All-Northeast-10 selection as a forward, led Bentley in scoring with 10 goals and three assists for 23 points. She had either a goal or an assist in 12 games and netted the game-winner twice.

"Ava brings great energy to the field and makes an impact on the game when she gets the ball," said Spencer.

Halas, whose sister Emma is also on the team, was one of seven players to start all 20 games last season. Bentley's most experienced player with 39 games of collegiate experience, the midfielder recorded two goals and three assists in 2021.

"Madison leads by example and is a playmaker," commented Spencer.

Szatkowski, a forward/midfielder who saw action in every game last fall and started ten times, tallied twice with both coming over Southern New Hampshire September 15.

According to Spencer, ""Carol is always prepared.  She is a good defender who can also start the attack which makes her a key player in our program.  "

Bentley opens its season September 2 and 4 with a two-game trip to Pennsylvania.
