GAFFNEY, S.C. – Sophomore midfielder Cassidy Coates (Balti more, Md.) scored off a penalty corner in the third minute of the second half to lift Limestone College, the tenth-ranked team in Division II preseason, to a 1-0 win over Bentley University in non-conference field hockey at Saints Field Sunday afternoon.
Limestone earned its first win of the season despite playing 16 of the game's 52:20 a man down as the result of three green cards and two yellow cards. Bentley, outshot 9-5 overall and 4-0 in the first half, was denied in its bid for a third consecutive win.
Coates took a pass from senior defender Kathleen Sigwart (Severn, Md.) and sent it past Bentley sophomore goalie Jana Mones (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS) into the cage.
Junior Tabria Cochran (Stafford, Va.) made three saves for the 1-3 Saints to earn the shutout. For Bentley, senior Evelyn Schaedel (Burlington, Vt./Burlington HS) had one first-half save while extending her scoreless skein to 113 minutes, and Mones had two in the second half.
Bentley, 2-3, will complete the non-conference portion of its schedule Wednesday afternoon with a 4 pm match at Assumption College.
