Bio

Byron Porter, whose resume includes time at Louisiana College, New Mexico Highlands and Virginia-Wise, is in his first season as Bentley’s Defensive Coordinator. 

Porter was the defensive line coach at Louisiana College during the 2018 season, the defensive backs coach at New Mexico Highlands the following year and the defensive backs coach at Virginia-Wise last spring. He’s also coached at West Jefferson High School and Helen Cox High School in his native Louisiana.

While at NMHU in 2019, Porter coached a team that recorded 13 interceptions and led the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in pass defense. One of his defensive backs earned first-team All-Conference honors.

In 2016 at Louisiana College, Porter coached a freshman defensive end who was named second-team All-Louisiana and honorable mention All-American Southwest Conference.

Porter, who received his Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Columbia Southern University in 2016 and his Master of Sports Administration from Upper Iowa University in 2017. He played football from 1990-92 at Indiana State, where current Bentley head coach Alvin Reynolds was on the staff, and at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

Porter, a native of New Orleans, and his wife Jacqueline have three children (Brandon, Brittney and Jessica) and one granddaughter (Rhiannon). Brandon coaches football at Louisiana Christian College.
