Falcon football returns from bye week for NE10 road game at St. Anselm

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley football team returns from its bye week, but continues its stretch of road games, when the Falcons kickoff at St. Anselm Saturday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m.

 

Holmes sweet Holmes

Vinnie Holmes' 135.0 rushing yards per game ranks fourth in NCAA D-II. He is the only Northeast-10 player averaging more than 70 yards on the ground. Holmes ran for 260 yards at Post (Sept. 16), which is the third-best total in program history. He was subsequently named the NE10 Offensive Player of the Week.

 

Hold the line

The Falcons have the seventh-best scoring defense in the nation, allowing only 13.25 points per game.

 

Total package

On the other side of the football, Bentley's offense is averaging a conference-best 361.5 total yards per game.

 

Sal takes 'em down

Sal Lupoli Jr. leads the conference in tackles per game with 9.8. He is up to 253 tackles through 34 career games.

 

Special treatment

Bentley's 29.2 kickoff return average ranks second in the NE10. Tajon Vassar set a school record when he returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown against New Haven (Sept. 9). Vassar was then named the NE10 Special Teams Player of the Week.

 

Spreading the ball

Three Falcons have 10+ receptions this season. Abel Lopes Jr. leads the way with 11 catches, while Nayvon Reid and Jake Tarentino both have 10.

 

Mmm Mmm, Good

Mason Campbell broke his own school record when he connected on a 49-yard field goal against New Haven (Sept. 9). He earned NE10 Special Teams Player of the Week following Bentley's win at Post in the third week of the season.

Their last meeting

The Falcons beat St. Anselm, 38-7, last year in Waltham. Mark Waid threw for 232 yards and five touchdowns.

 

Scouting St. Anselm (2-3, 1-1 NE10)

After starting the season with losses against Millersville and Tiffin, St. Anselm beat American International and Post. The Hawks' most recent game was a 6-3 loss at Southern Connecticut (Sept. 30). Carson Goda is the conference's third-leading receiver with 292 yards. In the rushing game, Vincent Wagner has 43 carries for 203 yards, and Bowen Lewis has 169 yards on 35 carries. The Hawks' defense has forced eight fumbles through five games, and three different players have an interception.
