Falcons set to host New Haven under the lights

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley football team remains at home in the early going of the 2023 season as the Falcons host New Haven under the lights Saturday, Sept. 9. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.

 

Familiar start

Bentley began the 2023 season with a one-point loss at home against West Chester, 20-19 (Sept. 2). The Falcons lost at the Golden Rams by one point, 17-16, in the 2022 opener, but Bentley went on to win seven of its following nine games.

 

On the Mark

Mark Waid began the 2023 season emphasizing the complete skillset that Falcons fans have come to know. He completed 16 of 28 passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns in the season-opener against West Chester. Waid also totaled a game-high 98 rushing yards on 20 carries (4.9 yards per carry).

 

Holmes hits the holes

Vinnie Holmes ran for 83 yards on 17 caries (4.9 yards per carry) in the season-opener against West Chester. He scored the first touchdown of 2023 – a three-yard reception from Mark Waid. It was his first-career receiving touchdown. Holmes had a 25-yard run early in the third quarter, setting up a 43-yard field goal made by Mason Campbell.

 

Good Reid

Nayvon Reid made a diving touchdown grab in the back of the end zone late in the first half of Bentley's season opener against West Chester. It was his third-career touchdown. He finished the game with two receptions.

 

A slice of Sal

Sal Lupoli Jr. totaled eight tackles against West Chester, giving him 222 for his career. Lupoli also notched his fifth-career sack.

 

Forcing the issue

In addition to recording eight tackles, Mathieu Severance forced a fumble against West Chester. Nick Pucillo pounced on the loose ball for the turnover in favor of Bentley.

 

Scouting New Haven (0-1)

The Chargers began the season with an overtime loss at home against Frostburg State, 27-24 (Aug. 31). New Haven struggled in the passing game, as Daelen Menard complete just 10 of 30 pass attempts, but two of those completions went for six points. The Chargers' defense accounted for a touchdown when Giye Jenkins went pick-six in the second quarter.
