Lupoli Jr. Selected for NEFW Division II-III Gold Helmet

WALTHAM, Mass. – For the second consecutive week, a Bentley University Falcon has been selected as the recipient of the New England Football Writers Division II-III Gold Helmet, presented by the Jack Grinold/Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation.

This week's honoree is junior linebacker Salvatore Lupoli Jr. (Chelmsford/Chelmsford HS), who distinguished himself in Bentley's 10-3 win at Assumption University Saturday. It was the Falcons' third straight win and the Greyhounds' first Northeast-10 loss of the season.

Against the Greyhounds, Lupoli Jr. contributed eight tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception as Bentley continued its streak of outstanding defensive performances. Assumption's only redzone play of the afternoon, late in the first quarter, ended with Lupoli Jr. scooping up the loose ball and returning it 33 yards to the Greyhound 45. The interception came with 1:59 left and essentially secured the victory for the visitors.

Lupoli Jr. has 66 tackles this season for the 5-2 Falcons and leads the Northeast-10 in both tackles and tackles per game (9.4).

The Bentley D has allowed only one touchdown in its last 14 quarters and is ranked in the top five nationally in terms of both points and yards allowed.

The weekly Gold Helmet recipients will be honored at the annual NEFW Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 8, at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel and Conference Center.

For the eighth straight year, the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation is the presenting sponsor for both the weekly and end-of-year Gold Helmet Awards presented to student-athletes from FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III institutions throughout New England

Next Saturday, Bentley will host Southern Connecticut State on Family Weekend.
