Waid & Lanzalotto Earn NE10 Player of the Week Awards

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University graduate quarterback Mark Waid (Cortland, Ohio/Girard HS) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week and senior linebacker Christian Lanzalotto (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven HS) was tabbed as the NE10 Defensive Player of the Week.

Both were recognized for their efforts in Bentley's 38-7 win over Saint Anselm College on Saturday.

Waid threw five touchdown passes against the Hawks, including at least one in every quarter, and now has eight in his last two games. He amassed 291 yards total offense, including 232 through the air on 13 of 20 passing. The touchdown passes covered 57, 1, 14, 5 and 18 yards.

The Youngstown State transfer, who was selected for this week's New England Football Writers Division II-III Gold Helmet on Sunday for his efforts, ranks fourth nationally among Division II quarterbacks in rushing yards and is first in the NE10 in passing efficiency. He's accounted for 15 touchdowns, including 13 passing.

Lanzalotto played a major role in the victory as he was all over the field with two interceptions, 40 return yards, five tackles, 1.5 tackles for losses and three pass break-ups. Both of his interceptions, one in the final minute of the first half and the second in fourth, led to Falcon touchdowns. The Bentley D contained the Hawks, who had averaged 334.8 yards and 28.4 points in its first five games, to 186 yards total offense and a fourth-quarter TD.

For the season, Lanzalotto has 30 tackles, second on the team, and 2.5 for losses. The interceptions against Saint Anselm were the first of his career.

Also recognized for his play against the Hawks, with selection to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll, was junior kicker Mason Campbell (Tampa, Fla./Barron Collier HS).

Campbell remained the conference's leading scorer by adding eight points to his total (48). He was perfect on his five extra point kicks and also made a 27-yard field goal. Campbell also kicked off seven times.

Bentley, 4-2 overall and 2-1 NE10, will play at Assumption University Saturday.
