Branch & Campbell Receive NE10 Player of the Week Honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – Following Bentley University's 41-0 victory at Franklin Pierce University Saturday, senior co-captain Jailen Branch (Randolph/Milton Academy) has been named the Defensive Player of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference and junior placekicker Mason Campbell (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier HS) has been named the conference's Special Teams Player of the Week.

Branch intercepted two passes and was credited with one tackle against the Ravens with his effort helping Bentley limit the Ravens to 167 yards total offense and 1-of-11 on third-down conversions. The only NE10 player who was named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and the only one selected as a NFF Campbell Trophy semifinalist is tied for the conference lead in interceptions with three.

Branch, a two-time All-Conference honoree, has 103 tackles, 21 pass break-ups, five interceptions and two fumble recoveries in 35 career games.

Campbell scored 11 points against Franklin Pierce as he made both his field goal attempts (32, 20 yards) and was 5-for-5 on extra points. He also kicked off eight times with six of those resulting in touchbacks.

For the season, Campbell leads the Northeast-10 in scoring with 40 points. He's made seven of eight goal attempts and is perfect on his 19 point-after attempts.

Also recognized, with selection to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll, was graduate quarterback Mark Waid (Cortland, Ohio/Girard HS). The Youngstown State quarterback accounted four touchdowns with three through the air (39, 26, 9 yards) and one on the ground (1 yard). Against the Ravens, he ran for 103 yards on 16 carries and completed 10 of 22 passes for 157 yards. All told, he accounted for 240 yards total offense and averaged 6.3 yards per play. Waid ranks fourth nationally in rushing yards by a quarterback with 390.

Bentley, 3-2 overall and 1-1 conference, will host Saint Anselm College Saturday.
