Pappas homers twice, Bentley ties program record with 28th win

COLCHESTER, Vermont – Nick Pappas homered twice, and the Bentley baseball team rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth inning to match a program record when it defeated Saint Michael's, 9-5, Friday afternoon.

The victory was the Falcons' 28th win of the season, matching a school record that was set in 2009, and achieved again in 2012.

Bentley and Saint Michael's were knotted in a 5-5 game heading into the ninth inning. Pappas broke the tie by belting one-out solo home run to left-center field. The big swing flustered the Purple Knights, as Cory Bright reached on an error in the very next at-bat.

Rene Nunez came in to pinch run, and he reached third base when Steven Rizzuto doubled down the left-field line. Eddy Beauregard followed with an RBI single that allowed Nunez to score. Tyler Gonzalez did the same, hitting a single to allow Rizzuto to reach home. Beauregard took third base on the play thanks to a throwing error, and he came in to score when Tim Zupkus reached base on a fielding error.

Jayden Longdin earned the win by allowing just one run on three hits in 3.1 innings out of the bullpen.

Matt Tyman struck out eight batters in his start for Bentley, yielding just two earned runs through 5.2 innings on the mount.

Jackson Walonis went 1-for-3 at the plate. His lone hit provided the first runs the game with a two-run double in the second inning.

Brian Lindsay and Pappas hit back-to-back home runs to start the fifth inning. The Falcons trailed by a run, 5-4, entering the eighth inning until Gonzalez tied the game by scoring on an error.

Pappas finished the game 4-for-5 at the plate, and Beauregard went 3-for-5.
