Rizzuto, Lindsay homer during wins at Saint Rose

ALBANY, N.Y – Steve Rizzuto and Brian Lindsay both hit home runs during the Bentley baseball team's doubleheader wins at Saint Rose Wednesday.

 

Bentley 13, Saint Rose 3

Rizzuto and Lindsay both homered in a five-run ninth inning as the Falcons won the first game, 13-3, against Saint Rose. Rizzuto's three run homer was his eighth of the season, and Lindsay's two-run shot was his fourth.

Bentley got on the board first by taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Tyler Gonzalez led off with a single, and Jackson Walonis drew a two-out walk. Lindsay came up with a clutch single that scored Gonzalez and moved Walonis to third. Walonis then came in to score when the Golden Knights committed an error on a ball put in play by Nick Pappas.

The Falcons added three more runs in the fifth inning. Cory Bright was hit by a pitch to initiate the rally. Rizzuto drew a walk, and Bright moved to third base on a fielder's choice. Gonalez laid down a bunt that scored Bright from third. Saint Rose committed another error that allowed Eddy Beauregard to reach base, and Walonis smacked a two-run single.

In the sixth inning Rizzuto hit an RBI single, and he came in to score on a double hit by Gonzalez.

Connor Gileau earned the win by pitching 3.2 shutout innings out of the bullpen. He improved his record to 6-0 for the season.

Rizzuto finished the game 4-for-5 with four RBI, and Lindsay went 3-for-5 with three RBI. Walonis and Gonzalez each came away with two hits.

 

Bentley 17, Saint Rose 5 (7 inn.)

Beauregard totaled four hits and four RBI to lead the Falcons to a 17-5 win in the second game against Saint Rose.  

Bentley wasted little time in continuing swing hot bats, pushing two runs across the plate in the first inning. Tim Zupkus was hit by a pitch, and Rizzuto drew a walk. Both runners scored when Beauregard belted a double to left field.

The Falcons tacked on six more runs in the second inning. Patrick Purcell and Joe Cacciatore drew consecutive walks, and Cory Bright's double scored Purcell while Cacciatore reached third. A walk to Zupkus loaded the bases, and Rizzuto forced in a run by earning a free pass. Beauregard followed with an RBI single, and Gonzalez brought in two more runs with a base hit. The rally was capped off with an RBI groundout by Walonis.

Bentey's four-run fifth inning included an RBI double by Walonis, a bases-loaded walk by Bright, and an RBI single by Rizzuto.

The Falcons hit five doubles in the game, including two by Bright. He finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate Rizzuto went 2-for-2, and he drew four walks. Cacciatore scored three times.

Bentley concludes its regular season with a three-game series at Saint Michael's, May 3-4.
