Bentley positions for playoff seeding during final week of regular season

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley baseball team's final regular-season games of the season are on the road this week. The Falcons take on St. Rose Wednesday, May 1 for a make-up doubleheader, and then they travel to St. Michael's for a three-game series, May 3-4.

NE10 landscape

With an 11-11 conference record, Bentley enters this week's slate of games in third place in the Northeast Division. Franklin Pierce (17-6 NE10) and Southern New Hampshire (17-7) have already claimed the top two spots in the division. Bentley is still trying to fend off Assumption (10-13 NE10) for the #3 seed in the division.

Beau-tiful week

Eddy Beauregard belted two home runs, drove in eight runs, and drew four walks through five games last week. He went 3-for-6 at the plate and scored four times during Bentley's historic 33-8 win at AIC (April 23). Beauregard has six homers and 19 RBI through 25 games this season.

Rizz has game

Steve Rizzuto totaled 11 hits for a .524 batting average last week. He also drew five total walks between those five games. Rizzuto belted his seventh home run of the season during the Falcons' 5-2 win over Saint Anselm (April 28). His 48 RBI this season leads the team, and it is the second-best total in the NE10.

Stickin' with Glupe

Ryan Glupe tossed seven shutout innings in his start again Saint Anselm (April 28), improving his season record to 3-0. Glupe allowed only four hits and a walk to improve his season record to 3-0. He retired 11 of the last 12 batters that he faced.

Walonis does all of this

Jackson Walonis has three multi-hit efforts in Bentley's last five games. He went 4-for-6, clubbed two homers, and scored six times during the 33-8 win at AIC (April 23). Walonis then had a 2-for-4 game against Assumption (April 26), and he went 2-for-4 in a game against Saint Anselm (April 27).

Sicker than your average

Bentley is one of only two NE10 teams hitting .300 or better this spring. The Falcons enter this week's games with a .301 batting average (Southern New Hampshire is hitting .302). Bentley's .402 on-base percentage also ranks second in the NE10 to SNHU's .422 mark. Cory Bright leads the NE10 in on-base percentage with a .531 mark, and his .396 batting average ranks third.

Scouting Saint Rose (19-19, 12-10 NE10)

The Golden Knights are currently in second place in the Southwest Division. The team's .293 batting average and .398 on-base percentage both rank third in the NE10, right behind Bentley. However, the pitching staff's 6.80 ERA is third-to-last in the NE10. Louis Gendron (.396) and James Ward (.389) both rank among the conference's top five for hitting.

Scouting Saint Michael's (9-27, 6-16 NE10)

The Purple Knights sit in last place in the Northeast Division. They entered this week with seven losses in their last eight games (Saint Michael's plays both Assumption and Franklin Pierce at Franklin Pierce Tuesday). The team's .246 batting average is second-to-last in the NE10, and its batters combine for the third-most strikeouts (347). The pitching staff's 9.39 ERA is the worst in the conference.
