Gonzalez homers, Glupe goes seven strong in win over New Haven

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Ryan Glupe was lights out on the mound, and Tyler Gonzalez hit his second home run of the season to lead the Bentley baseball team to an 11-1 non-conference win over New Haven Wednesday.

Making his first start of the season on the hill, Glupe worked seven innings and allowed only one run on four hits.

Gonzalez's home run came in the first inning, quickly proving that the Bentley bats have yet to cool down. The Falcons have scored 10+ runs in three of their last four games, and they continue to lead the Northeast-10 in team batting average (.318).

The Gonzalez homer was a two-run shot that scored Tim Zupkus, who previously reached base with a single.

Bentley tacked on four for runs in the second inning. The Falcons loaded the bases with one out after Patrick Purcell, Tommy Bolton, and Joe Cacciatore each got on with singles. Zupkus lifted a sac fly to score Purcell, while Gonzalez and Jackson Walonis both hit one-run singles. Brendan Sencaj drew a bases-loaded walk to cap off the rally.

Steve Rizzuto finished the game with two hits, one of which was a two-run triple in the eighth inning. Like Rizzuto, Rene Nunez finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate. Zupkus went 3-for-3 and drew two talks, while Gonzalez finished his big day 3-for-6 with three runs scored and three driven in.

Bentley remains in Florida to take on Caldwell Thursday, March 14, at 12:30 p.m.
