4 Falcons Earn All-Conference honors

Sears & DeMartinis III Earn 2nd-Team All-Northeast-10 Accolades

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference announced its All-Conference awards for baseball on Wednesday with Bentley University represented by graduate student Liam Sears (Springfield/Pope Francis HS), sophomore outfielder Stan DeMartinis III (Boca Raton, Fla./American Heritage HS) and freshmen Pat Heber (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City HS) and Tommy Bolton (Tampa, Fla./Plant HS).

Sears and DeMartinis were voted on to the All-Conference second team and both Heber and Bolton received All-Rookie Team recognition.

All four played a role in the Falcons' first-round win over top-seeded and nationally-ranked Southern New Hampshire on Tuesday, a victory that earned coach Mike Hill's squad a trip to Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y. for the double-elimination Northeast-10 Championship Weekend.

Sears had two hits and three RBI, DeMartinis drove in one run with a single, Bolton scored three times and had one RBI, and Heber came on to earn the save.

DeMartinis, in his first Bentley season after transferring from Bryant, has an impressive slash line of .320/.448/.620 as well as 10 home runs, 47 RBI, 50 runs scored and 12 steals. He leads the team in those four categories as well as slugging, and ranks in the top seven in the conference in slugging, RBI and runs. His father Stan was a two-time All-Northeast-10 honoree while playing for Bentley back in the 90's.

Sears, who was selected as a utility player, started 24 times as the designated hitter, 17 games at first base and twice in left field. A .300 hitter for the third consecutive season, he owns a .336 batting average with six home runs, 36 RBI and 45 RBI. His .469 on base percentage is a team-best and his fielding percentage is .990. In 114 career games, Sears has a .334 average, 11 HR and 89 RBI. One of the team captains, Sears previously earned second-team All-Conference honors in 2021.

Bolton, who took over as the Falcons' starting shortstop early in the season, will enter this weekend's action with a team-best .352 batting average. He's reached base 50 percent of the time when leading off innings this season and has a .458 on base percentage, second best on the team. Defensively, he's made only eight errors in 37 games and has been part of nine double plays.

Heber, a left-hander who has started seven times and come out of the pen in five games, has a 4-3 record, two saves and a 6.34 ERA. He has struck out 56 in 49.2 innings and was the NBWCA Division II East Region Pitcher of the Week earlier this season. Season highlights have included a three-hit shutout at Franklin Pierce and a 12-strikeout performance against Assumption.

Bentley, 23-20 after winning eight of its last ten, will play Pace University Thursday at 2:30 pm in the second round of the conference championships. The game will be streamed on NE10 NOW.
