Bentley Falls to Pace, 10-9; Zupkus & Bolton Drive in 2

LAKE WORTH, Fla. – Despite two RBI apiece from senior right fielder Tim Zupkus (Middlebury, Conn./Holy Cross HS) and freshman shortstop George Bolton (Tampa, Fla./Henry B. Platt HS), Bentley University dropped a 10-9 decision to Pace University Monday in non-conference baseball at the Santa Luces Athletic Complex.

Bentley, after trailing early 6-0, battled back to forge a 7-7 tie after five. Taking advantage of wildness by Falcon pitchers, Pace regained the lead with three in the sixth and held on the win. The Falcons got two back in the eighth and left the bases loaded in both the eighth and ninth innings. All told, they left 14 on base.

Senior leftfielder Tommy Fisher (Stoughton, Mass./Catholic Memorial HS) had an RBI single in the second and Zupkus had a sacrifice fly in the third.

Bentley put on the board in the fifth with the inning including RBI singles by Zupkus, Bolton and senior catcher Brian Lindsay (New Durham, N.H./Kingswood Reg. HS).

In the eighth, Bentley used the fifth home run of the season by sophomore third baseman Stan DeMartinis (Boca Raton, Fla./American Heritage HS) and a bases loaded walk drawn by Bolton.

The Falcons' 12 hits included two apiece from Zupkus, Lindsay, Bolton and senior first baseman Eddy Beauregard (Paxton, Mass./Wachusett Reg. HS), who is now batting a lofty .471.

Pace was led by senior left fielder Matthew Rinaldi (Scarsdale, N.Y.), who was two-for-five with a triple, two runs scored and three RBI. The three-bagger came during the Setters' three-run sixth.

Pace, after a three-game sweep of the Falcons, improved to 10-1. Bentley, 5-4, will play St. Cloud State at Little Fenway in Delray Beach, Fla. Tuesday at 10:30 am.
