Sears Named NCBWA Division II East Region Hitter of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – For the second time this season, a Bentley University Falcon has been named the Division II East Region Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

The latest honoree is senior designated hitter Liam Sears (Springfield/Pope Francis HS) who played a major role in the Falcons' sweep of St. Michael's College on Sunday.

Sears, who was previously recognized as the Northeast-10 Player of the Week, sparked Bentley to a come-from-behind 16-9 game one win with four RBI, two hits and two sacrifice flies. Threes were wild in game two as he had three hits in three at bats, three runs scored and three RBI in a 7-0 victory. Among his hits were both a homer and a double.

Overall, Sears drove in seven runs in the doubleheader and put up a slash line of .714/.600/1.429.

Through the first six games of the season, Sears has a .444 average, an .889 slugging percentage, eight RBI and nine runs scored. His career numbers include a .341 average, a .508 slugging percentage, 88 hits and 61 RBI in 77 games.

Last week's East Region Hitter of the Week was sophomore shortstop Stan DeMartinis III (Boca Raton, Fla./American Heritage HS).

Bentley, 5-1, will begin a seven-game trip to Palm Beach County, Florida on Saturday.
