Dashiell II, Huminski & Brekke Honored as Bentley’s Top Senior Athletes

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University handed out its Outstanding Senior Athlete awards on Friday with football defensive end Cedie Dashiell II (Buena Park, Calif./Buena Park HS) and diver Mary Huminski (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) the recipients.

In addition, the Edward J. Powers Scholar-Athlete Award was presented to women's basketball captain Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS). The Powers Award, which has been presented annually since 1965, to Bentley's premier senior scholar-athlete, is named in honor of the late President of the Boston Garden who was an alumnus and trustee of what was then Bentley College.

Dashiell, a fifth-year senior, was honored as the 2022 Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year after helping the 7-3 Falcons lead Division II in scoring defense (10.5 points per game) and rank fourth nationally in total defense. He led Super Region 1 in sacks per game, averaging 10.5.

NE10 Defensive Player of the Year was one of numerous awards that Dashiell earned during his standout career. The list included NE10 Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2021 as well as two-time D2CCA All-Super Region 1, three-time first-team All-Northeast-10 and two-time New England Football Writers Division II-III All-New England. The two-year team captain was also a Don Hansen NCAA Division II honorable mention All-America and a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award, which is presented annually to the nation's top small college defensive player.

Dashiell, who helped Bentley to an impressive 21-5 record since midway through the 2019 season, finished his career with 149 tackles, 44 tackles for losses, 30.5 sacks, 11 forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.

Huminski, a three-time Northeast-10 Women's Diver of the Year, swept the diving at the Northeast-10 Championships each of the three years in which she competed and was named the NE10 Women's Diver of the Meet each time. She participated in the NCAA Division II qualification meet in both 2020 and 2022 and was selected to participate in 2023 as well.

A standout in the classroom as well, Huminski was the only Northeast-10 student-athlete to be selected as a College Sports Communicators Women's Swimming and Diving Division II Academic All-America, earning third-team honors. She was also a two-time Academic All-Northeast-10 selection.

Huminski is Bentley's nominee for several major awards, including Northeast-10 Woman of the Year, Northeast-10 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and NCAA Division II Woman of the Year.

Brekke, a two-year captain, distinguished herself on the court and in the classroom throughout her four years at Bentley. Twice an Academic All-Northeast-10 selection, she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2022 and had a 3.77 GPA in grad school through the fall semester while pursuing her MBA with a concentration in leadership.

Brekke, including her freshman year at the University of New Hampshire, scored over 1,100 points as a collegian, including 828 in 81 games as a Falcon. She earned All-Northeast-10 honors twice, helped the Falcons capture the Northeast-10 Championship in both 2022 and 2023, and received the 2022 NE10 Elite 24 Award as the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the championship site.

Brekke was a founder and one of the leaders of an on-campus club "Be the Bridge," which aims to raise awareness of and combat social injustice by sparking conversations with students on campus.
