Morena & Burke Post Top-10 Finishes in Tennessee, Helping Falcons Place 5th

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Paced by top-ten finishes from seniors Julia Morena (Boylston, Mass./ Tahanto Reg. HS) and Katie Burke (Braintree, Mass./Braintree HS), the Bentley University women's cross country team finished fifth among 12 teams at the Trevecca Division II Showcase Saturday morning.

Morena posted a time of 19:23.1 over the 5,000-meter course, averaging 6:14.0 per mile, as the eighth runner across the finish line. Burke was right behind her, placing ninth in 19:26.8 with a mile pace of 6:15.2.

Bentley's other top 25 finisher was junior Courtney Loughnane (Canton, Mass./Canton HS), who was 16th in 19:48.6. Also scoring for the Falcons were junior Marianne Bartolotta (Wantagh, N.Y./ Holy Trinity HS) and senior Mary Leach (Peabody, Mass./Peabody Veterans HS). Bartolotta was 37th in 20:50.1 and Leach finished 38th in 20:52.6.

As a team, Bentley placed fifth among 14 teams with a score of 108. Only 30 points separated the top five with Bloomsburg University (Pa.), the 19th-ranked team in Division II, edging Truman State (Mo.) for team honors.

Bentley's next action is the New England Championships Oct. 8 at Boston's Franklin Park.
