Bentley Takes Care of Business for 13th Straight Win, 3-1 at Southern Connecticut

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Dani Milner (Plano, Texas/The Greenhill School) put down her 11th and 12th kills of the match for the final two points of the fourth set and a 3-1 Bentley University victory over Southern Connecticut State University in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Friday night at the Moore Fieldhouse. The scores were 23-25, 25-18, 25-15 and 28-26.

The win was the 13th straight for Bentley, which remained undefeated in the Northeast-10 (7-0) and improved to 18-4 overall. The streak is the Falcons' longest during the 2000's and the sixth longest active streak nationally in Division II.

Freshman Ingrid Murphy (Cotuit, Mass./Barnstable HS) and senior setter Xio Lopp (Kalispell, Mont./Flathead HS) both turned in double-doubles for Bentley, the second of the year for Murphy and eighth for Lopp. Murphy finished with 12 kills and a career-high matching 18 digs while Lopp, the current NE10 Setter of the Week, stuffed the stat sheet with 36 assists, a career-best 20 digs, five kills, three blocks and two aces.

After dropping the opening set, Bentley stormed back to take the next two rather easily. The Falcons were facing a 24-22 deficit in the fourth before earning the next three points, a run that included kills by senior Rachel Bruno (San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker School) and Lopp. With the tally even at 26, Lopp set Milner twice for the go-ahead and match-clinching points.

Milner complemented her 12 kills with four blocks, a total matched by Bruno (8 kills). Sophomore Katie Rounds (McFarland, Wis./McFarland HS) had a strong hitting night with seven kills and no errors in 15 swings (.467).

Bentley's 98 digs, a season-high for a four-set match, also included 19 from junior Mallory Burbage (Bow Mar, Colo./Littleton HS) and 14 from freshman Jenna Giaquinto (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons HS).

The Falcons limited Southern (9-11, 2-3 NE10) to a .062 hitting percentage. It was the ninth time this season they've kept their opponent under .100.

For Southern, freshman Ella White (Gurnee, Ill.) had 14 kills, senior Jennifer Dawson (Clinton, Conn.) served four aces and senior Anna Venard (Thornton, Colo.) made 27 digs.

Bentley's next match is next Friday at Saint Rose.
