12 Kills from Milner Lifts Bentley to 12th Straight Win, 3-1 over Assumption

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Dani Milner (Plano, Texas/The Greenhil School) put down a dozen kills and classmate Rachel Bruno (San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker School) made six blocks as Bentley University extended its winning streak to 12 with a 3-1 victory over Assumption College Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference volleyball at the Dana Center. The scores were 25-17, 20-25, 25-15 and 25-12.

Bentley, 17-4 overall and a conference-leading 6-0, matched the 2002 team for the program's longest winning streak of the millennium. Assumption dropped to 3-14 overall and 1-5 NE10.

The Falcons dominated the final two sets after the Greyhounds grabbed the second. They jumped out to an 11-2 start in the third, due in part to two kills and two shared blocks by Milner, and put together a 12-3 run to take a 16-7 lead in the fourth.

Milner hit .321 and also helped out with six digs, three blocks and a pair of aces.

Freshman Ingrid Murphy (Cotuit/Barnstable HS) also had a strong hitting match with eight kills and no errors in 22 swings for a .364 success rate. Six of her kills came in the fourth set and she also had 16 digs, matching freshman libero Jenna Gianquinto (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons HS) in that category.

Bruno had eight kills to go along with her six blocks, and NE10 Setter of the Week Xio Lopp (Kalispell, Mont./Flathead HS) finished with a 39-assist, 10-dig double-double.

Bentley hit .241 as a team and limited the visitors to a .007 hitting percentage with 34 kills and 33 errors. The Hounds had nine service aces, including four from sophomore libero Alexandra Krawczyk (East Patchogue, N.Y.).

The next three matches for the Falcons are on the road, beginning Friday at 7 pm at Southern Connecticut State.
