Southern N.H. Bests Bentley in Three

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Junior Amanda Costales (Wantagh, N.Y.) put down 15 kills and hit .520 to power Southern New Hampshire University to a three-set sweep of Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Tuesday night at the Spirou Field House.

Bentley slipped to 7-11 overall and 3-4 in conference play after losing for the fourth time in its last five matches. SNHU, 6-7 overall, improved to 4-1 in the NE10 after outhitting the Falcons .276-.160.

The night started on a positive note for the Falcons as the visitors picked up the first four points of the match, including two on aces by senior setter Krista Campbell (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North HS).

Down 13-12, the Penmen turned the set around by scoring eight unanswered to claim a 20-13 lead. SNHU had five kills from four different players during that stretch.

In the second set, after Bentley evened the score at 24, Southern New Hampshire scored the next two to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Sophomore Mallory Burbage (Bow Mar, Colo./Littleton HS) led Bentley with eight kills, and both junior Rachel Bruno (San Diego, Calif./Francis Parker HS) and sophomore Kirsten Segaline (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain HS) each had seven. Bruno's line also included three blocks and a pair of aces.

Bentley will play three matches on Long Island this coming weekend, beginning Friday at Molloy College.
