Bentley Falls Twice during Day One of Bahama House Labor Day Clasic

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --- The Bentley University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches, both in straight sets, Friday during the opening day of the Bahama House Labor Day Classic at Embry-Riddle University's ICI Center.

The scores against Oklahoma Baptist University were 25-19, 25-20 and 25-17 and the Falcons fell to McKendree University (Ill.) 27-25, 25-20 and 25-13.

Sophomore Kirsten Segaline (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) had a team-best ten kills for Bentley in the Oklahoma Baptist match while Mikayla Wilson (Whitesboro, Texas)), Malia Leatherland (Broken Arrow, Okla.) and Nicole Fleitman (Lindsay, Texas) all reached double figures in that category for the 3-3 Bison.

Defensively, the Falcons received 15 digs apiece from freshman Amanda Parker (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North HS) and senior Krista Campbell (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North HS), and three blocks from freshman Shannon Ngo (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda HS).

Parker paced Bentley against McKendreee, finishing with seven kills and seven digs. Ngo made three blocks for the second straight match.

The opening set was a battle with Bentley fighting back from a 24-21 deficit to forge a 24-all tie. Junior Xio Lopp (Kalispell, Mont./Flathead HS) began the comeback with a kill and the next two points came on Bearcat attack errors. After McKendree regained the lead, Segaline created a 25-25 tie with her kill off a Lopp set. However, a service error returned the advantage to the Illinois school and an ace by junior Kelly Voss (St. Rose., Ill.) closed out the set.

The tournament will continue Saturday with Bentley, 0-4, facing Florida Institute of Technology at 9 am and Embry-Riddle at 1 pm.
