WALTHAM, Mass. – In an early season match-up of unbeatens, Caldwell College took the final two sets by identical scores of 25-19 to best Bentley University in the penultimate match of the Hoffman Memorial Invitational volleyball tournament Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center.

Earlier in the day in the tournament named after Bentley's late Hall of Fame coach Sandy Hoffman, the Falcons improved to 3-0 with a 25-12, 25-15, 25-18 victory over Wilmington University (Del.). It was the first time since 2005 that Bentley won its first three matches.

Against the Cougars, Bentley bounced back from a 25-19 loss in the opening set to square the match at one apiece with an impressive 25-14 win in the second. The Falcons scored the final five points with senior co-captain and All-Tournament Team selection Shannon Kelly (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS) providing her fourth kill and second ace of the set.

Caldwell closed the pivotal third set with a 10-4 burst after the two clubs were even at 15, and also pulled away late in the fourth, closing with an 11-6 run.

Six-foot-two senior Katrina Janssen (Seville, Australia) powered Caldwell with 18 kills, six digs and six of her team's 12 blocks.

Kelly and sophomore outside hitter Dani Milner (Plano, Texas/The Greenhill School) both put up double-doubles for the Falcons. Milner finished with 12 kills, ten digs and four blocks while Kelly had 10 kills and 14 digs.

Bentley also received 21 digs from senior libero Celia Cristofoli (Fort Collins, Colo./Hudson HS (Ohio)) and 34 assists from junior setter Krista Campbell (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North HS).

Sophomore Rachel Bruno (San Diego, Calif./Frances Parker School) was dominating for Bentley in the Wilmington match, hitting .579 with 17 kills and just one error. Kelly had another double-double (11 kills, 15 digs), and Campbell tallied 30 assists while playing only the first two sets.

Bentley will be in Florida next weekend for the Rollins College Invitational with matches against Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, Eckerd, Georgia College and the host team.
