Kelly & Van Buren Lead Bentley to 3-Set Sweep of Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Lauren Van Buren (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa HS) and junior Shannon Kelly (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS) both had 10 kills and nine digs, and Van Buren also posted three blocks, as Bentley University dispatched of Assumption College in three sets in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Tuesday night at Laska Gym. The scores were 25-16, 25-18 and 25-19.

The third set was the tightest of the night with Bentley facing a 19-17 deficit when coach Joey Pacis took a timeout. When play resumed, the visiting Falcons quickly put the match away by scoring the final eight points of the night.

That closing burst featured four kills by Kelly, the third ace of the night by junior libero Celia Cristofoli (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson HS) and a pair of shared blocks by freshman Xio Lopp (Kalispell, Mont./Flathead HS) and senior Ashley Latimer (Croton on Hudson, N.Y./Croton Harmon HS).

Bentley hit .264 in the match with sophomore setter Krista Campbell (Newtown, Pa./ Council Rock North HS) providing the assist on 33 of the team's 39 kills. Van Buren hit .409, Kelly followed at .308 and six-foot-two junior McKenna Buck (Renton, Wash./Holy Names Acad.) had six kills in as many swings.

Cristofoli had 18 digs, and Van Buren's three blocks were matched by Latimer, Lopp, Campbell and freshman Rachel Bruno (San Diego, Calif./Frances Parker HS).

Junior Julia Goyette (Randolph) led Assumption (5-18, 2-11 NE-10) with ten kills.

Bentley (11-16, 8-5 NE-10) will wrap up the regular season Thursday night at home against American International (7:30 pm). That's a change of date and time from the original schedule.
