Le Moyne Hands Bentley Volleyball Its First Home Loss

WALTHAM, Mass. – A trio of players all recorded 11 kills as Le Moyne College handed Bentley University its first home loss of the season, 3-1, in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center. The scores were 25-11, 23-25, 25-20 and 25-19.

Sophomores Jessica Miller (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and Anna Hafoka (Hurst, Texas) both had 11, as did senior Andrea Buchanan (Hamburg, N.Y.). Their effort helped the Dolphins improve to 19-5 overall and 9-2 NE-10, good for third place.

Bentley, which had won its first six home matches this season, dropped into fifth place with records of 10-15 overall and 7-4 conference.

The Falcons got off to a great start, hitting a blistering .522 in the opening set with 14 kills and only two errors. Five of those kills were registered by senior middle blocker Ashley Latimer (Croton on Hudson, N.Y./ Croton Harmon HS).

Le Moyne maintained the lead throughout most of the next three sets with the second one the closest. In that one, the Falcons used five unanswered points to get within 24-23 before a Bentley attack error gave the Dolphins set point.

Outside hitter Lauren Van Buren (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa HS), one of three Falcons honored pregame as part of Senior Day festivities, led Bentley with 14 kills, 12 digs and two blocks. Latimer followed with nine kills and finished with a .600 hitting percentage with no errors. The third senior, setter Allie Rotkin (Cumming, Ga./Milton HS), contributed 37 assists and six digs.

Bentley also received production from its junior class as Shannon Kelly (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS) had eight kills and 12 digs, Celia Cristofoli (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson HS) made 26 digs and McKenna Buck (Renton, Wash./Holy Names Acad.) recorded seven blocks.

For Le Moyne, sophomore Mikayla Porr (Massapequa, N.Y.) had 30 digs and junior Kendall Corcoran (Fort Salonga, N.Y.) registered 43 assists.

Bentley is off until next Saturday when the Falcons will play a 7 pm match at New Haven.
