Double-Doubles by Kelly, Van Buren & Campbell Help Bentley Edge Pace in Five

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Double-doubles by junior Shannon Kelly (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS), senior Lauren Van Buren (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa HS) and sophomore Krista Campbell (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North HS) helped Bentley University get past Pace University in five sets Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball at the Goldstein Fitness Center.

The Falcons (9-13, 6-2 NE-10), who had 100 digs for only the fourth time in the last ten seasons, took the three odd-numbered sets by scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 15-12, but the even-numbered ones belonged to the home team (25-22, 25-13).

Kelly finished with 17 kills and 19 digs, Van Buren totaled 16 kills, 14 digs and two blocks, and Campbell's line included 46 assists, 14 digs and two kills.

Four of Van Buren's kills came in the decisive fifth set, including one that tied the score at 12-12 and began a matching-ending 4-0 run. A Setter attack error put the visitors back in front, an ace from junior Isabella Perez (Lafayette, Calif./Carondelet HS) made it 14-12 and a setting error by Pace accounted for match point.

The always important third set saw Bentley close with a 6-1 spurt after being tied at 19. Campbell had one of her two aces during the run and the set ended on a Van Buren kill.

In addition to the three double-doubles, Bentley used 25 digs from junior libero Celia Cristofoli (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson HS) and five blocks from junior McKenna Buck (Renton, Wash./Holy Names Acad.) to earn its seventh win in its last nine matches.

On Tuesday, Bentley will play a 7 pm match at Franklin Pierce.
