Bruno Excels for Bentley, but Eagles Fly Past Falcons for 10th Straight Win

WATERBURY, Conn. – Despite 10 kills and a .714 hitting percentage from freshman middle blocker Rachel Bruno (San Diego, Calif./Frances Parker HS), the Bentley University women's volleyball team was swept in three sets by Post University in non-conference action at the Drubner Center Thursday night. The scores were 25-21, 27-25, 25-18.

The win was the tenth straight for the 10-2 Post Eagles. Meanwhile, Bentley dropped to 2-11 on the season.

The second set was pivotal as Bentley grabbed a 23-22 lead following both a block assist, with freshman Dani Milner (Plano, Texas/The Greenhill School), and a kill by Bruno.

The Eagles tied it up a couple times, but Bentley was still a point away from a set win at 25-24. The home team tied it once again on a kill by senior outside hitter Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.), took the lead on a kill by Griffin's twin sister Morgan and made it a 2-0 match with a kill from sophomore setter Brianna Root (Bristol, Conn.).

The momentum carried into the third set with Post getting out to a 12-4 start and going on to wrap up the sweep.

Morgan Griffin and sophomore outside hitter Sarah Seger (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) both had 11 kills for Post, and Hailey Griffin followed with nine. Root amassed 36 assists and served four aces, and senior middle hitter Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) recorded seven blocks.

Milner led Bentley in kills with 11, and junior libero Celia Cristofoli (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson HS) provided 15 digs and two aces. Bruno, in addition to ten kills without an error, posted three blocks.

Bentley will conclude 14 straight matches away from home on Sunday when it opens its Northeast-10 Conference schedule at St. Michael's College.
