Buscher, Rotkin Help Bentley Finish Regular Season with 3-1 Victory at AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior outside hitter Jaci Buscher (Lakewood,  Colo./Rocky Mountain HS) had eight of her 14 kills during the clinching fourth set as Bentley University closed out its regular season schedule with a 3-1 victory over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Saturday night at the Butova Gym. Scores were 25-21, 25-20, 22-25 and 25-19.

Bentley, which improved to 18-9 overall and 11-3 in conference play, also received strong efforts from junior setter Allie Rotkin (Cumming, Ga./Milton HS) and classmate Ashley Latimer (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Croton Harmon HS). Rotkin racked up 38 assists, with five Falcons having at least six kills, and added four herself in only eight attacks. Latimer hit .571 with her nine kills coming in 14 swings.

Rotkin had 12 assists and three kills in the opening set and five of her teammates put at least two down as the Falcons grabbed the 1-0 lead. Latimer sparked the Falcons in the second with four kills in five attacks.

Bentley took charge of the fourth set by scoring six straight points to turn a one-point deficit into a 14-9 advantage. That run featured three straight kills by Buscher.  The CoSIDA Academic All-America candidate also ended the match with her final kill of the night.

The Falcons, who hit a solid .291, also received eight kills from junior Lauren Van Buren (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa HS) and six (with a .462 hitting percentage) from sophomore McKenna Buck (Renton, Wash./Holy Names HS). Senior libero Jessica Segal (West Harrison, N.Y./ Harrison HS) recorded 25 digs and Buck was involved in five of the team's ten digs.

AIC, which dipped to 13-12 overall and 7-7 NE-10, received 16 kills, 19 digs and two blocks from sophomore Mercy Rivera (Canovanas, P.R.).

The two teams will see each other again Tuesday night when the third-seeded Falcons host the sixth-seeded Yellow Jackets in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 championships at the Dana Center (7 pm).
