Buscher & Metzger Lead Bentley to 5th Straight, 3-0 over SNHU

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior outside hitter Jaci Buscher (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain HS) delivered 14 kills, including nine in a dominating second set, and classmate Stephanie Metzger (Georgetown, Texas/Liberty Hill HS) hit .727 with eight kills and five blocks as Bentley University ran its winning streak to five with a 3-0 win over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Tuesday night at the Dana Center.

The 25-22, 25-14, 25-23 victory lifted the Falcons to 14-6 overall and 7-1 conference. Southern New Hampshire, held to a .023 hitting percentage, fell to 9-10 overall and 4-3 in NE-10 play.

The opening set included 15 ties and eight lead changes with the teams never separated by more than two points until a shared block by junior Ashley Latimer (Croton on Hudson, N.Y./Croton Harmon HS) and freshman setter Krista Campbell (Newtown, Pa./Council Rocks North HS) made it 23-20 in the midst of a 6-2 closing spurt.

With Buscher putting down nine kills in a dozen swings and Campbell providing 13 assists, the Falcons were firmly in charge of the second set most of the time. Buscher had three kills during a 5-0 run that made it 16-8 and she served the final four points of another 5-0 spurt that extended the Bentley advantage to 22-10.

The third was another closely contested set with ten ties and seven lead changes. Buscher and Metzger teamed for a block that put Bentley in front for good at 22-21, and Metger put the match away with a finishing kill.

Campbell had the assist on 29 of her team's 42 kills and senior libero Jessica Segal (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison HS) racked up 20 digs.

Bentley will be back in the Dana Center Friday at 7:30 pm to take on first-place Adelphi University.
