Bentley Notches 10th Win in Last 12 Contests with 3-0 Victory over St. Michael’s

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior outside hitter Jaci Buscher (Lakewood, Colo./Rocky Mountain HS) posted a 10-kill, 13-dig double-double and sophomore outside hitter Shannon Kelly (Hyde Park, N.Y./ Franklin D. Roosevelt HS) hit .368 with ten kills as Bentley University notched its tenth win in its last 12 matches, 3-0 over St. Michael's College at the Dana Center Saturday. The scores were 25-23, 25-18 and 25-22.

Bentley, with the victory, improved to 11-6 overall, 4-1 in the conference and 8-3 against East Region opposition. St. Michael's saw its records fall to 8-6 overall and 1-3 NE-10.

After picking up the match's opening point on a Kelly kill, Bentley's next lead in the opening set didn't come until 24-23 in the midst of a closing 4-0 run.  Kelly got it going with her sixth kill of the match, consecutive attack errors by the Purple Knights put the Falcons up one and Kelly ended the set with another kill, off the 14th assist from freshman setter Krista Campbell (Newtown, Pa./Council Rocks North HS).

Bentley seized control of the second with seven unanswered points that made it 19-12. Kelly was again instrumental during that run with two kills and an ace.

The third set was a battle with 13 ties, eight lead changes and the biggest point differential four at 24-20 after five straight Bentley points. Two of those points came on kills by senior middle Stephanie Metzger (Georgetown, Texas/Liberty Hill HS).

Campbell totaled 24 assists, four aces and two blocks in her two sets of action, and both Kelly and freshman Celia Cristofoli (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson HS) followed with three aces.

Bentley will play its next two matches on the road, at Saint Anselm Tuesday and at Southern Connecticut State Thursday.
