8 Aces by Cristofoli Helps Bentley Sweep Daemen and Mercy, Running Win Streak to 7

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Sophomore Celia Cristofoli (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson HS) served a total of eight aces, including five in the opening match, as the Bentley University women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to seven with non-conference 3-0 wins over Daemen College and Mercy College Saturday afternoon at the Mercy Gymnasium.

The scores against Daemen were 28-26, 25-12 and 26-24 while Bentley (8-4) took care of Mercy in easier fashion, 25-18, 25-13 and 25-21.

Against the Daemen Wildcats, Bentley had to overcome deficits of 19-13 in the first set and 21-17 in the third. Sophomore Shannon Kelly (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS) helped spark a 3-0 burst to end the opening set with a kill and an ace. In the third, the Falcons also picked up the final three points, using an attack error, a Kelly kill and a Cristofoli ace.

Senior middle Shelby Kreienberg (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS) led Bentley in kills against 6-7 Daemen, putting down 11 without an error in 19 swings, a success rate of .579. Freshman setter Krista Campbell (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North HS) had 29 assists, senior Jaci Buscher (Lakewood, Colo./Rocky Mountain HS) recorded 13 digs and sophomore McKenna Buck (Renton, Wash./Holy Names HS) had a career-best seven blocks.

Buscher came within one kill of a double-double against Mercy (4-10) as she again led the Falcons in digs (16), one more than senior libero Jessica Segal (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison HS). Kelly finished with 10 kills, Campbell helped with 33 assists and three blocks, and Buck also had three blocks.

Cristofoli ended the first set with an ace, Kelly put away the second with a kill, and a shared block by Buck and Kreienberg ended the match.

Bentley will be back in action Tuesday with a 7 pm home match against Assumption College.
