Metzger & Perez Help Bentley Extend Streak to 4 with 3-0 Win over Saint Anselm

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior co-captain Stephanie Metzger (Georgetown, Texas/Liberty Hill HS) established a career-high with 10 kills and sophomore Isabella Perez (Lafayette, Calif./Carondeiet HS) served three of the Falcons' nine aces as Bentley University stretched its winning streak to four by sweeping Saint Anselm College in three in non-conference women's volleyball action Thursday night at the Dana Center.

The scores were 25-14, 25-17 and 25-23 with the Falcons needing to register four of the final five points in the third to complete the sweep.

After the Hawks took a 22-21 lead in that set, Metzger's ninth kill of the night evened the count at 22 apiece. A Saint Anselm service error, its ninth of the night, broke a 23-all tie and Metzger closed out the victory with another kill.

The opening set saw Bentley seize control with a 12-2 spurt that made it 18-7. The Falcons ran off five straight in the second, a run that included two aces from sophomore Shannon Kelly (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS), to open a six-point advantage at 17-11. The differential peaked at eight on a set-ending ball-handling error by the 4-5 Hawks.

In addition to the ten kills by Metzger, Bentley received five apiece from Kelly, senior Shelby Kreienberg (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS) and junior Ashley Latimer (Croton on Hudson, N.Y./ Croton Harmon HS). The balanced effort also included 22 assists by freshman Krista Campbell (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North HS), 16 digs from senior Jessica Segal (West Harrison, N.Y./ Harrison HS) and four blocks from sophomore McKenna Buck (Renton, Wash./Holy Names HS).

Bentley finished with advantages of 9-1 in aces, 6-2 in blocks and 56-47 in digs while improving to 5-4.

Bentley will open its Northeast-10 schedule Tuesday night with a 7:00 match at Merrimack College.
