New York Tech Holds Off Bentley in Five

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Despite a 13-kill, 18-dig double-double from junior Jaci Buscher (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain HS) and 24 digs by senior liberto Lauren Colasanti (Northville, Mich./Northville HS), Bentley University fell to New York Tech in five sets in non-conference women's volleyball at the Recreation Hall Saturday afternoon.

It was the second loss in as many days for the Falcons, who entered the weekend trip to Long Island with a seven-match winning streak. Bentley dropped to 13-9 overall while NYIT improved to 12-15.

The Bears grabbed the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-10, but Bentley came back to prevail in the next two, 25-20 and 25-22. Two Falcon attack errors to start the fifth gave NYIT a lead and the Bears never gave it up, winning 15-13 to claim the victory.

In that decisive fifth, Bentley got within one point six times, the last at 14-13 following a shared block by Buscher and sophomore Ashley Latimer (Croton on Hudson, N.Y./Croton Harmon HS).  However, a bad set by the Falcons on the ensuing play gave NYIT match point.

Buscher, the only Falcon with more than seven kills, also provided three blocks and two aces, accounting for a total of 16.5 points. Senior Alex Tator (Los Angeles, Calif./Marlborough School) and junior Jessica Segal (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison HS) both had double-doubles, each finishing with 16 assists and 12 digs.

New York Tech received 16 kills from freshman Katie Mattson (San Antonio, Texas) and 15 from junior Kate Brock (River Edge, N.J.). Junior Becky Syers (East Meadow, N.Y.) made 28 digs and freshman Allison Fowler (Centennial, Colo.) provided 44 assists.

Bentley will be back in the Empire State Friday when it resumes Northeast-10 action at Pace University.
