LIU Post Cools Off Bentley with 3-0 Sweep

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The opening match of a weekend trip to Long Island for the Bentley University women's volleyball team turned out to be a disappointment as the Falcons were swept by LIU Post at the Pratt Recreation Center, 25-22, 25-22 and 25-18.

Bentley, which had won seven in a row, dropped to 13-7 overall while the Pioneers improved to 15-11.

The Falcons held the lead relatively late in each set, but each time, the Pioneers battled back. They closed the opening set with a 9-4 spurt after trailing 18-16, used a 7-1 run after being down 21-18 in the second and closed out the third with a 9-2 burst.

Bentley hit only .058 with just 26 kills in the match. Senior Savannah Dominguez (Miami, Fla./ Palmer Trinity HS) was the only Falcon to have more than five kills as she finished with 10. Six of those came in the opening set.

Freshman defensive specialist Shannon Kelly (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS) led Bentley with three aces and 13 digs, and senior setter Alex Tator (Los Angeles, Calif./Marlborough School) finished with 20 assists.

Helping LIU Post to the victory were freshman Danielle Valenza (Hauppauge, N.Y.) with 12 kills, junior Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawai'i) with 20 digs and freshman Heather Ball (Gilbert, Ariz.) with four blocks.

Bentley will be back in action Saturday afternoon with a 1:00 match at New York Tech.
