Bentley Aces Southern Connecticut for 3rd Straight Win

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University used a season-high 13 aces, including five from senior setter Alex Tator (Los Angeles, Calif./Marlborough School), to sweep past Southern Connecticut State, 3-0, in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Thursday night at the Dana Center. The scores were 25-16, 25-12 and 25-14.

Bentley, with its third straight win and ninth in its last 12 matches, improved to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the NE-10.  The Owls, whose last lead of the night came at 3-2 in the first set, fell to 5-12 overall and 2-4 conference.

Service aces were part of the Falcons' success from the start as they had six in the opening set alone. That included four by freshman Shannon Kelly (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt HS). All came during a run of nine unanswered points that gave Bentley an early 10-3 lead.

The second set included six more aces, including four by Tator, including a pair back-to-back for the final two points.

Bentley had 14 kills in the third set, including five by senior middle blocker Savannah Dominguez (Miami, Fla./Palmer Trinity HS). The Falcons earned the set's first five points and extended the lead to 13-4 after consecutive kills by senior Kaleigh Sullivan (Naples, Fla./Harley School, N.Y.).

Dominguez led Bentley in points with 10 as she finished with six kills, four blocks and an ace. Sullivan followed with five kills and Tator complemented her five aces with 18 assists, two blocks and three kills. Senior libero Lauren Colasanti (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) gave the Falcons a team-best 15 digs, averaging five per set.

Southern, which finished with more attack errors (23) than kills (16), received five kills apiece from freshman Alexandra Jurgens (Cornwall, N.Y.) and sophomore Nicole Hauser (Stevens Points, Wisc.).

Bentley's next match is Tuesday night at Southern New Hampshire.
