Froehlich & Dominguez Shine as Bentley Bests Merrimack in Five

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior outside hitter Tatiana Froehlich (Newton/Newton North HS) took over at the start of the fifth set en route to her most productive performance as a collegian and junior middle blocker Savannah Dominguez (Miami, Fla./Palmer Trinity HS) also had a strong match as Bentley University outlasted Merrimack College in a five-set non-conference women's volleyball match Wednesday night at the Dana Center.

Bentley, which improved to 3-1 with the win in its home opener, scored the first eight points in the fifth set and went on to take the clinching set 15-4. The Falcons won the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-23, and Merrimack (0-5) battled back to tie, taking the next two by scores of 25-21 and 26-24.

Froehlich matched her career high with 12 kills, doubled her previous-best with six aces and also had 15 digs and two blocks. Dominguez had a .400 hitting percentage with 11 kills, and she also was involved in five blocks.

In the fifth set, a Froelich kill on the opening serve gave the Falcons a lead they would not relinquish. It also gave her the serve and she responded in style, serving three aces as Bentley made the switch of ends with an 8-0 lead. Froelich also had four of her digs in that set.

Froehlich had two aces in the opening set, with Dominguez and junior setter Alex Tator (Los Angeles, Calif./Marlborough School)  also playing a key role. Dominguez had five kills in eight swings and Tator had 11 of her 41 assists.

In the second set, kills by Froehlich and junior Simone Silvera (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook HS) accounted for the final two points after Merrimack had tied the count at 23 apiece.

Merrimack junior Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.), who finished with 28 kills and a .318 success rate, led the Warrior comeback as she recorded six kills in the third and nine more in the fourth. She also accounted for every point her team recorded in the fifth with four kills.

Bentley also received a double-double, 10 kills and 11 digs, from sophomore Jaci Buscher (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain HS), who also had two aces. Junior libero Lauren Colasanti (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) chipped in with 15 digs and two aces, and the Falcons also received contributions from sophomore defensive specialist Jessica Segal (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison HS) and sophomore outside hitter Kaleigh Sullivan (Naples, Fla./Harley School, N.Y.). Segal  had 11 digs and Sullivan had four of her six kills in the fourth set.

Bentley will travel to St. Petersburg, Fla. for four matches this weekend in the Eckerd College Classic.
