Bentley Drops 3-1 Decision to Franklin Pierce

WALTHAM, Mass. – Outside hitters Natasha Ray (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Catie Swiderski (Rocky Point, N.Y.) each had 11 kills as Franklin Pierce University put away Bentley University in four sets in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Saturday night. The match was played at Brandeis University's Auerbach Arena due to resurfacing of the Dana Center court.

The three set wins by the Ravens came in convincing fashion with scores of 25-11 in the first, 25-15 in the second and 25-14 in the fourth. Bentley captured the third set, 25-22, with 12 of the team's 38 kills and three of the seven aces coming in that one.

Franklin Pierce broke the first set open with a run of 12 straight points that included three aces by freshman Sarah McHugh (Red Hook, N.Y.) and four Falcon attack errors. In the finale, Bentley spotted the Ravens six straight points to start and could never completely erase the deficit.

Bentley's third set victory featured four kills by senior co-captain Grace Conner (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos HS) and two aces from freshman Jessica Segal (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison HS).

Ray, in addition to her 11 kills, provided the Ravens (10-11, 4-1 NE-10) with six aces, 13 digs and three blocks. As a team, Franklin Pierce amassed an incredible 20 service aces, including eight from junior Lauren Miller (Alexandria, Ind.).

Sophomore libero Lauren Colasanti (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) had 21 digs for Bentley, and classmate Savannah Dominguez (Miami, Fla./Palmer Trinity HS) was the team's most effective hitter with seven kills and a .353 success rate.

Bentley (7-14, 2-4 NE-10) will play at UMass-Lowell Tuesday evening.
