Garcia, Dominguez Each Record 10 Kills, but Bentley Falls in Five at St. Michael’s

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Bentley University sophomores Emily Garcia (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas HS) and Savannah Dominguez (Miami, Fla./Palmer Trinity HS) each had a season-best 10 kills, but it wasn't enough as the Falcons fell in five sets to St. Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Thursday night at the Ross Sports Center. Scores were 25-15, 23-25, 25-13, 21-25 and 15-7.

Bentley, which battled from behind to even the match twice with wins in the second and fourth sets, dug itself a hole it couldn't climb out of in the fifth. The Falcons had five attack errors before their first successful kill in the decisive set, creating an 8-1 deficit. After a short burst cut the deficit to five at 12-7, St. Michael's closed out the match with three straight points.

The Falcons, down 23-22 in the second and facing a 2-0 hole, tied that one with a Dominguez kill and put it away with consecutive kills by freshman Jessica Segal (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison HS).

After a third set that was all St. Michael's, Bentley bounced back to take the fourth with freshman Kyana Miller (San Diego, Calif./Canyon Crest Acad.) assisting on 13 of 15 kills in the set. Five different Falcons had at least two kills, with senior Grace Conner (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos HS) topping the list with four.

The duo of junior Chelsey Covitz (Marshfield, Mass.) and senior Tracy Peterka (Newport Beach, Calif.) powered St. Michael's (10-6, 2-3 NE-10) as they combined for 30 kills and only three errors. Covitz hit .455 with 17 kills, and Peterka had 13 kills and a .500 success rate.

Miller established a new career-high with 45 assists and also had six digs, four blocks and two aces. Sophomore libero Lauren Colasanti (Northville, Mich./Northville HS) led Bentley with 22 digs, and Segal finished with four aces.

Bentley hit just .122 with its 32 attack errors 21 more than the Purple Knights (.331) recorded. The Falcons also had 11 service errors in the match.

Bentley (7-13, 2-3 NE-10) will face Franklin Pierce University Saturday at 7 pm in a match that will be played at Brandeis University due to renovations at the Dana Center.
