Bentley Drops a Pair during Final Day of Pepsi Bash at the Beach

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Bentley University women's volleyball team completed the Pepsi Bash at the Beach at Palm Beach Atlantic University with a pair of 3-0 losses on Saturday as the Falcons fell to Barry University as well as the host institution.

Barry improved to 9-6 after taking the match 25-15, 25-22 and 25-18. Palm Beach Atlantic, a sparkling 21-2, bested the Falcons 25-16, 25-20 and 25-21.

Sophomore Kelsey Buckner (San Marino, Calif./San Marino HS) led the Falcons in both matches as she had nine kills and a .273 hitting percentage against the Barry Buccaneers, and bettered those numbers with 10 and .318 against the Sailfish.

Barry closed strong in the first and third sets and held off Bentley in the second after the Falcons pulled to within two late (22-20, 23-21, 24-22). In the first, the Bucs finished with a 13-4 spurt and in the third, used a 10-3 run after the two were tied at 15.

The third set was the closest in the PBA match. A Buckner block brought the Falcons within two at 23-21, but a service error and a match-ending kill by sophomore setter Becca Acevedo (Miami, Fla.) ended the comeback bid.

Bentley freshman setter Kyana Miller (San Diego, Calif./Canyon Crest Acad.) had a double-double with 24 assists and 12 digs against Palm Beach Atlantic. The Falcons also received eight kills from junior Ashley Ahearn (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield HS) and 12 digs from sophomore Lauren Colasanti (Northville, Mich./Northville HS).

Palm Beach Atlantic was led by senior Mariela Quesada (San Jose, Costa Rica), with 16 kills, 11 digs and two blocks. Acevedo also had a strong match, with 36 assists, four digs, two blocks and two kills.

Bentley (7-12) will return north for a Thursday night Northeast-10 match at St. Michael's.
