Shevlin Runs to 5th at NE10’s; Hurwitz Places 8th in Hurdles

BOSTON, Mass. – Bentley University juniors Brian Shevlin (Floral Park, N.Y./Chaminade HS) and Sydney Hurwitz (Newton/Newton North HS) scored in individual events Friday as the 2020 Northeast-10 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships drew to a close at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Shevlin finished fifth in the 60 meter dash, posting a time of 7.07 seconds. He had qualified for the finals on Thursday with a 7.04.

Hurwitz was eighth in the 60 hurdles with her time of 9.28 seconds matching her personal best.

Bentley also scored in three of the four relays. The highest finish came in the men's 4x400 with senior Josh Gettings (Lowell/Lowell HS) and junior Niko Jancaterino (Buzzards Bay/Falmouth HS) combining with sophomores Joe Wix (Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial)  and Devin Wendel (Westfield, N.J./Westfield HS) to place fifth in 3:26.24.

The Falcons were eighth in both 4x800 relays after posting times of 8:19.30 (men) and 10:15.94 (women). The men's team included sophomore Derek Pittorino (Westborough/Westborough HS) and a trio of freshen: Brice Tolan (Abington/Abington HS), Jack Deehan (Westwood/Westwood HS) and Joe Balboni (Tewksbury/Tewksbury HS). For the women, it was senior Abbie Newman (Hanson/Whitman-Hanson Reg. HS), junior Amanda McElroy (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston HS), sophomore Ann Klee (Neustadt Aisch, Germany) and freshman Julia Hultin (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS).

The Bentley men finished ninth among ten teams with eight points and the women were 10th of 11 with two points.

The Northeast-10 champions were the Stonehill women (152.5) and the Southern Connecticut State men (242.5).
