Hurwitz, Hultin Post Wins during Maine Saturday Invitational; Davies Breaks Record

ORONO, Maine. – The Bentley University women's indoor track team competed in the Maine Saturday Invitational Saturday at the New Balance Field House and received winning performances from junior Sydney Hurwitz (Newton, Mass./Newton North HS) and freshman Julia Hultin (Sudbury, Mass./ Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS), as well as a school record from sophomore Chase Davies (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead HS).

Hurwitz shattered her personal best by nine-and-a-half inches while winning the long jump. Her distance of 17'10.25" elevated her to fifth on the season's Northeast-10 Conference performance list.

Hurwitz also improved on her PR in the 200 meters, finishing third in 27.24 seconds, and was fourth in the 60 hurdles, posting times of 9.56 in the prelims and 9.67 in the finals.

Hurwitz also suffered a loss during the non-scoring meet as her school record in the 60 hurdles now belongs to Davies. She ran a 9.21 in the prelims, bettering Hurwitz' time of 9.28 and her own PR of 9.37. After recording the conference's fifth best time, she placed second with a 9.23 time in the finals.

Hultin captured the 800 in 2:29.32, just about a second faster than runner-up Kayla Raymond of Maine.

Senior Dom Balzora-Rivert (Templeton, Mass./Narragansett Reg. HS) finished second in the 60 with her 8.16 clocking a season-best.

Another senior, Abbie Newman (Hanson, Mass./Whitman-Hanson Reg. HS), was third in the mile (5:51.61). The Falcons were also third in the 4x400 relay with freshman Kaitlyn Helfer (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy HS) combining with seniors Chantel Lewis (Bronx, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Science and Math), Kirsten Lebreux (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford HS) and Kayla Fraser (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow HS) for a season-best time of 4:27.28.

Next weekend, Bentley will compete in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University Friday and the Gordon Kelly Invitational Saturday.
