Balzora-Rivert, Hurwitz Impress During Emmanuel Indoor Season Opener

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior captain Dom Balzora-Rivert (Templeton/Narragansett Reg. HS) and junior Sydney Hurwitz (Newton/Newton North HS) had strong starts to the season as the Bentley University women's track and field team competed in the Emmanuel College Indoor Season Opener Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Balzora-Rivert was sixth among 61 runners in the 60 meters (8.21), ninth among 84 competitors in the 200 (27.14) and eighth of 21 in the triple jump (33'0.5").

Hurwitz' day included placing third of 33 in the long jump (16'7"), fourth of 33 in the 60 hurdles (9.63), ninth of 71 in the 60 and 21st of 84 in the 200 (27.29).. Her 9.31 time in the 100 was a personal best by 0.3 seconds and moved her to 12th on the program's all-time list.

A number of newcomers impressed during their first indoor meet as collegians. Among them was sophomore and St. Lawrence transfer Chase Davies (Marblehead/Marblehead HS). She had a virtual identical time to Hurwitz in the 60 hurdles, finishing in fifth place with her 9.63 good for fifth on Bentley's all-time list. She was also 12th of 71 in the 100 with an 8.63.

Freshmen with strong performances were Audrey Christo (Belmont/Belmont HS) in the 3000 (4th of 22, 11:00.36) and Julia Hultin (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) in the 800 (3rd of 24, 2:28.13). Hultin was also part of the Falcons' 4x400 relay that was seventh of 13 in 4:33.02.

Sophomore Ann Klee (Neustadt Aisch, Germany) was fifth of 14 in the 500 (1:25.28) and classmate Samantha Bilodeau (New Ipswich, N.H./Mascenic Reg. HS) was ninth of 20 in the 5000, with her 19:05.07 second best in the Northeast-10 Conference during the opening weekend.

Bentley's next meet will be the Reggie Poyau Invitational at Brandeis Jan. 11.
